It’s That Time Again!!

So. How was your summer? Did you get get to make any scarves? (I had to ask!)

Really, it is that time again! It’s time for the first scarf-bombing of the season with the Wrap Up! Project. It will take place Wednesday, October 13 at 7pm at Penn Square in Lancaster, PA. Then, it’s off to the Columbia Presbyterian Church in Columbia, PA to scarf-bomb there, too.

If you plan on joining us, hop on over to the Facebook event page and let us know you are coming! Please be mindful of social distancing and it probably would still be a good idea to wear a mask, too, even though this is an outdoor event.

It’s good to be back, and here’s to another season of scarf-bombing and keeping Lancaster County warm.

February Scarf-Bomb

FYI: This event has been canceled due to a few reasons. Keep an eye out for a new post update!

On February 15, 2021, The Wrap Up! Project will have a scarf-bombing, and it will be at Penn Square in Lancaster, PA. The meeting point for everyone will be at the funky fountain on the opposite side of the street from the Lancaster Marriott hotel. We will meet there at 7pm.

Following the scarf-bombing in Lancaster, we will proceed to Columbia, PA to the Columbia Presbyterian Church on Locust Street, approximately around 8pm.

As usual, we ask that everyone wear a mask and follow social distancing protocols. Let’s do good while taking healthy measures!

December Scarf Bombing

Christmas is coming up soon, but first there The Wrap Up! Project will have its December scarf bombing on December 16, 2020 at Musser Park in Lancaster, PA at 7PM. We will then convene at the Columbia Presbyterian Church in Columbia, PA following Musser Park to scarf bomb there.

We will meet at Musser Park at the Lime and Chestnut Sts. entrance. There is metered parking there, if needed. The Columbia Presbyterian Church is located at 4th and Locust Sts. In Columbia, PA. Street parking is available there, too.

Again, we ask that everyone wear a mask and follow social distancing protocols. Let’s stay healthy for the holiday season!

P.S.: We still have plenty of yarn for making scarves. Please contact us if you are interested!

November Scarf-Bombing

Hey, everyone! The next scarf-bombing for the Wrap Up! Project will be November 24, 2020 at 7pm at Crossroads Mennonite Church, 401 Church St, Lancaster, PA 17602. After that, we will head to the Columbia Presbyterian Church in Columbia, PA, located at Locust and 4th Sts, roughly around 8pm.

Now, Crossroad Mennonite Church is a special place because it houses a day shelter for the local homeless population that is run by the a charity called Rebel Cause. Rebel Cause, founded by Kaden Stetler, is a caring group of Star Wars fans who ultimately want to help out the less fortunate in our community, and are doing just that!

We want to show our support for what Rebel Cause is doing by putting out scarves and other cold weather hand made items out for those coming to the shelter, or anyone, to take.

Keep in mind this is flu season and we are still amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Please practice social distancing at the scarf-bombing and ultimately, please wear a mask.

October 19th Scarf Bombing

The SEVENTH, yes SEVENTH season on The Wrap Up Project officially kicks off on Monday, October 19th at 7pm at the Lancaster Free Public Library on Duke Street in Lancaster. (It’s right across from City Hall.) Afterwards, roughly around 8pm, we will head on to the Columbia Presbyterian Church to scarf bomb there.

As per CDC guidelines, we request that every wears a mask and practices social distancing. Let’s all stay healthy!

We look forward to seeing you on October 19th, and to another successful WUP season!

Yarn Available for WUP Scarves

Another season (the 7th!) of The Wrap UP! Project is almost upon us! We trust that you have been making scarves to donate and getting ready to scarf bomb. Despite the current state of affairs, we are looking forward to a great season!

On October 5, 2020, Angelia Reed will be at the old AC Moore parking lot at 6pm to distribute yarn for WUP scarves. She has quite a lot and is looking to give out to eager knitters, crocheters, and weavers to make items.

The old AC Moore parking lot is conveniently located right off Route 222, and right in between Route 272 and 501. Stop on by!

As per CDC guidelines, please wear a mask and keep social distancing in mind. We want a healthy season of WUP!

News Bits

Whew! It’s 2020, and time get back to scarf-bombing. Have you been busy getting scarves together?

First, the January scarf-bombing (1/8/20) is still ON for tonight in Binn’s Park, Lancaster, PA. Dress warmly. It will be cold. For more information and to let us know you are coming, please check out the Facebook event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/637392073739371/

Next, we’ve all heard about those horrible wildfires in Australia. People have lots everything, and the unique wildlife Down Under is in danger, too! Crafty? Here’s a recent article in LNP about how you can help. Not crafty? Money is needed, too! You can donate this is rescue that is spearheading wildlife rescue efforts.

Lastly, as a note that we need to make, if you receive the WUP newsletter via e-mail, please note that the address at the bottom of the e-mail is NOT a drop off point, but rather a private residence. All of our drop off points are clearly outlined here.

We have a lot to do, both locally and globally!

SCARF SHORTAGE ALERT

Hello! Technician Jenn here bright and early on a Sunday morning. Just to fill you in, I recently had some MAJOR back surgery, and am laid up at home, but I can still type. To get to the point: The Wrap Up Project does not have enough scarves for a scarf-bombing in December.

Now, you may ask…..how do I know this? Angelia Reed, WUP founder and her daughter Kyra, WUP’s #1 scarf-bombing participant, came to visit me at home a few days ago. How sweet of them! We actually had a really good conversation and the company was lovely. Of course, WUP business came up, and Angelia had been going through bins in her storage unit, and there is a bin and a half of scarves and hats, not even enough to do a December scarf-bombing.

Now, granted, our drop off points haven’t been checked for this month yet, but still, this is a sobering reality. We really need to you to guys out there to start making scarves for WUP.

Knitters? Start knitting. Grab some bulky yarn and big needles. You know you can whip up a scarf in a few days binge watching something awesome. Crocheters? Same thing, grab a huge hook and you can knock out a scarf in even less time, while binge watching something equally awesome. Weavers? Yes, it takes you the longest, but get those looms warped, and fire up a sweet audio book. Don’t do any of those things? NO EXCUSE. If you have scissors and able to get some fleece fabric, start cutting while listening to your most excellent tunes. Here’s a no-sew fleece scarf tutorial.

The key? Everything needs to be handmade. No store-bought items, please. And, if you need to be reminded of WUP’s Scarf Sizing Requirements, here they are below. I’ll even throw in the hat sizing.

Scarf/Hat Requirements:
Items can be made using any craft the maker chooses.  They can be any color, fiber, style, or stitch pattern.

Here are the minimum size requirements for items:
Scarves – Scarves should be at least 3” wide, and at least 30” long.  They need to be long enough to comfortably fit around a person’s neck, and long enough to tie around something (a tree, post, pole, etc.).  Remember that scarves are versatile and can be used as a neck warmer, a head covering, or as a head rest/pillow.

Hats – Use the following guidelines:

  • Newborn: 14” circumference
  • 3-6 month old baby: 17” circumference
  • 6-12 month old baby: 18” circumference
  • 12 month – 3 years: 19” circumference
  • 3-10 years: 20” circumference
  • Pre-teens and teens: 21” circumference
  • Adult woman: 22.5” circumference
  • Adult man: 22.5-24” circumference

Our Wish List

Thank you all again for a fantastic season of The Wrap Up Project!! Please keep making handmade scarves and other cold weather items over the warmer month, and be sure to take them to our drop off locations.

With that being said, we here at WUP have a wish list. Here’s a word from WUP’s fearless leader, Angelia Reed about what is needed.

This time of year, I like to go through our storage unit and organize it, so that we have room for incoming donations. We’ve grown every season, which means we have more donations (& less space in storage).

Last year, I started thinking about adding shelves to the unit so that we’d be able to use more of the space. This year, I have found what I think will be the perfect shelving unit for us.

If you’re interested in helping, see below for our current wish list. The items can be dropped off at one of our drop off locations, or you can message on Facebook us to make other arrangements.

All of these items are available at Lowe’s.
• Commander XL 17 gallon storage tote (quantity: 20)
• Commander Heavy Duty Shelving Unit (47.75”L x 20”W x 72”H) – 200lb load capacity per shelf (quantity: 2)

April Scarf-Bombing Cancelled

Due to a variety of circumstances, The Wrap Up Project’s April scarf-bombing has been cancelled. Please, keep on making scarves and taking them to our donation drop off points.
