It’s Our Birthday!

Yup, it’s our birthday here at The Wrap Up! Project, and we are celebrating our third birthday/fourth season since founder Angelia Reed posted on Facebook about how she’d like to start scarf-bombing.

In a post on Facebook earlier today, Angelia had this to say about this momentous occasion:

I didn’t know back then that Wrap Up would become what it is today. It is way bigger (& more wonderful) than I imagined.

Special thanks to Amy Antonucci for sharing my post. Amy is not a knitter or crocheter. She just thought the idea was a good one & knew that she has friends who knit and/or crochet.

Special thanks, too, to Bethany Storms. Bethany is a crocheter. She saw Amy’s post and hopped right on board. She made the first three or four Wrap Up scarves. She also braved the cold to meet me in Binn’s Park one snowy night to put the scarves out.

Thank you to everyone who has helped to grow this project. We now leave over 700 items in Lancaster & Columbia each month!

Go treat yourself to some new yarn, hug your pet, have some cake, or do something positive that makes you happy to celebrate!

Rescheduled Evening Sit and Stitch

Due to weather conditions yesterday, the evening Sit and Stitch that was originally supposed to happen last night has been rescheduled for January 30, 2018, 5pm-7pm.  Please RSVP on Facebook to let us know if you’ll be there!

Cold Outside

Good grief, it’s cold outside.  My dog loves it, but many people don’t.  I’m one of them.  I tend to wrap myself up in handmade knits and bundle up, as my dog sniff and frolics outside.

It’s also a stark reminder that many people in the Lancaster area don’t have a warm place to go.  Thankfully, many churches and civic centers open their doors during the cold weather and offer a warm place to sleep.  It’s also a time when we need to be reminded that our work here at The Wrap, Project! IS important.  By providing warm scarves and hats for anyone exposed to the elements, we are doing a small part in keeping Lancaster County warm.

That being said, let’s get down to business, and that is a reminder of January events.  Here’s what’s happening!  Click on the links to be taken to each events’s Facebook events page so you can RSVP and let us know you’ll be in attendance.

November Tagging Party

Our regular monthly tagging party will take place on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Kegel’s Produce in Lancaster at 7PM.  Please RSVP on the Facebook event page so we know you’re coming. You can get directions to Kegel’s Produce there, too.

November Scarf-Bombing

This month’s scarf-bombing will be taking place at the Lancaster Public Library at 7PM on November 28, 2017.  We will then be heading to the Columbia Presbyterian Church in Columbia, PA, USA afterwards.  Come for either one, or come for both, but please RSVP on the Facebook event page so we know you are coming.

Ewebiquitous

Ewebiquitious is a knitting shop in Lititz, PA, USA, and is doing a great project to collect scarves and other handmade cold weather items for WUP.  They are encouraging people to bring in their items to decorate their Christmas tree.  All items will them be donated to WUP.  Here’s more from their Facebook page:

Ewebiquitous is partnering with local charity The Wrap Up, Project this season and we need you and your skills (any skill level is welcome)!

Instead of ornaments and tinsel, we’ll be decorating our Christmas tree with your handmade donations of hats and scarves. Every single item will go directly to The Wrap Up organization to help warm a local person in need through the winter.

We will be accepting the donations between November 18th and Christmas–start now so we can fill our tree with warmth (and create a beautiful window display)!

Head on over to their Facebook page so you can learn more and get started in getting that tree covered in scarves!

We hope your Black Friday shopping has been productive.  We also hope you are doing well on your holiday crafting!  Best wishing, and keep and eye out here, on Facebook, and on our mailing list for updates.

3 Great Things to be Thankful for

There are 3 great things to be thankful for that we here at WUP want to tell you about.  It’s getting colder outside, and we are moving things into high gear to prepare for upcoming scarf-bombings.  Here’s what’s happening.

Number 1.

Early birds, we are having another morning Sit and Stitch at the Speckled Sheep on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 10am.  Bring a current project, or start a new one!  RSVP here.

Number 2.

Night owls, your turn!  Come on out to the evening Sit and Stitch at the Speckled Sheep on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 5pm.  Again, bring a project, or being anew!  RSVP here.

Number 3.

Lastly, and this one is awesome.  Ewebiquitous, a local yarn store located in Lititz, PA, USA is hosting a wonderful drop off for WUP.  Taken from their Facebook page:

Ewebiquitous is partnering with local charity The Wrap Up, Project this season and we need you and your skills (any skill level is welcome)!

Instead of ornaments and tinsel, we’ll be decorating our Christmas tree with your handmade donations of hats and scarves. Every single item will go directly to The Wrap Up organization to help warm a local person in need through the winter.

We will be accepting the donations between November 18th and Christmas–start now so we can fill our tree with warmth (and create a beautiful window display)!

How cool is that?!  We love getting the support of to two of our awesome local yarn stores.  Thank you both!  And thanks to all of your for your support, too!  We are thankful for all of you!

October Scarf-Bombing Wrap-up

Last night on October 24, 2017, the Wrap Up! Project ventured into Lancaster and Columbia to scarf-bomb.  It may have been a warm day, but the night was cool, and people were out and about.  It was a great time to have a scarf-bombing!

Cub Scout 58 from Willow Street came out and lent their time and talents to distributing scarves last night.  Thanks, guys!  You did a great job!  We always welcome groups and members of the community to come out and help.

Cub Scout Pack 58 members

All of our volunteers who came out last night did a great job!  Even the furry ones!  Thank you guys for your help.

Dog in a scarf!

Here are a few more photos of the scarf-bombing around Penn Square and Columbia Presbyterian Church.  Read more in Erin Negly’s great article today in LNP!

As for me, Jenn the Tech Gal, I was walking to work today and saw two people happily walking along with two of the scarves that were put out last night, tags fluttering in the breeze.  It felt so good to see that!  We are making a difference.  YOU are making a difference.  Keep up the good work!

Have you heard about our upcoming event at The Speckled Sheep on October 31, 2017?  WUP will be having a Sit and Stitch, and you are invited!  LNP will be there to cover the event, so we would love it if you’d come out!  Be sure to RSVP and let us know you are coming on our Facebook event page.
